Children 2-11 years old: If your child struggles with frustration tolerance, managing emotions, communicating their needs effectively, withdrawal, self-harm, anxiety, anger, depression or impulsivity, therapy can help! You might be wondering what psychotherapy looks like for children in this age group. Firstly, the therapist works to build trust with you and your child because this becomes the foundation for all the work that takes place. Secondly the therapist gathers information pertinent to understanding the issues you're facing and setting therapeutic goals. This involves play and art therapy interventions which help with building rapport, gathering information and making progress on your child's treatment goals. All interventions employed by your therapist will be individualized and grounded in science. The therapist's mission is to make the therapy sessions fun, engaging and effective so you and your child start to see results as soon as possible.

Teens 12-19: Teens can sometimes experience a sense of feeling misunderstood and alone in their suffering. If you are seeing signs of possible depression, anxiety, anger or if your teen has lived through a traumatic experience, therapy can help them feel less triggered by their environment or in their relationships. It can also help your teen communicate their needs and feelings more effectively, increase self-awareness and build self-care habits to increase their resiliency. Therapy for adolescents involves building a strong foundation of trust, collaborating on treatment goals and employing science-based interventions that your teen will find engaging and useful. Parents can receive coaching on how to help their teen make progress on their goals via communication skills, limit setting and increasing understanding of your teen's behaviors and emotional needs.

Adults: Often adults seek therapy due to distress stemming from interpersonal conflict, general dissatisfaction with current life circumstances or trouble regulating their emotional states. Therapy helps address the root causes of these issues. You can work with your therapist to gain awareness over your thoughts, emotions and behaviors and employ interventions to change how you react to triggering situations. Science-based interventions can help you clear up past trauma that may be interfering with your current functioning, increase your self-confidence and build resiliency so you can handle whatever life throws in your direction. The more willing and engaged you are as a participant in your own therapy, the better and stronger the positive outcomes.
